Christmas dinner, booked well in advance. Very poor service, apart from one of the staff called Lloyd. We waited fifteen minutes before anyone bothered to take our drinks order, which then took forty minutes to arrive! Each course took a long time to arrive - thirty minutes or so. The main course, which was the main event, had no sprouts, which were advertised on the menu we booked. Two "roast"potatoes were on the plate - and, as experienced cooks, they appeared (and tasted) as though they had been deep fried then left to become rather soft.
The plate arrived with a pleasantly displayed slice of turkey and some nice roasted carrots and parsnips. I awaited the usual veg tureens but nothing appeared. When questioned the waiting staff stated that this was the meal. No other veg.
Quite frankly, this was the worst Christmas meal I have had. I wasn't overly impressed a few years ago when I ate a Christmas meal in a fancy location in Truro and only received three sprouts, but this even outshone that for a lack of veg!
We did receive some money back from the lady who appeared to be managing the dining area, but frankly, poor food, a lack of understanding regarding vegan requirements and a very disappointing meal for a fair expense was quite disappointing.
Great time. We only used the swimming pool, hot tub and sauna but enjoyed every minute! Everything was very clean and looked well maintained. There a few changing rooms, several lockers, 3 showers and one toilet. Pool was a nice temperature and big enough to have a swim. Definitely recommend and look forward to going back. The lady on reception was very helpful and even showed us where we needed to go. Many thanks.
I came here to stay as part of my field trip to Cornwall. The staff are very friendly, accommodating, welcoming and helpful. They always have time to see if you are enjoying your stay. Food is not bad. The whole hotel is absolutely spotless and well maintained. Great facilities, with use of the sauna, hot tub and swimming pool. There's also a cinema room where they show movies of your choice - just see the receptionist. I would definitely come here again if visiting Cornwall. My only qualms are that the duvets are a bit small (although the staff will bring you another if requested) and meals are a bit plain, but these are tiny issues. This is a dog friendly hotel and I met some guests that brought their pets along, who seemed very happy with their stay as well. There was another group staying at the hotel on a turkey and tinsel week. The hotel was decorated beautifully for Christmas and Santa visited for the children. The local area is pretty quiet with gorgeous views of the sea from the hotel.
Before writing this review I read a few of the previous reviews including the 1 and 2 stars as I normally do, and was shocked. Anyone experiencing the same visit I have, would happily leave a 5 star review for this hotel and more importantly the team who run it. They are kind and caring and go above and beyond for guests. We are a group of 5 adults and 2 kids and 3 dogs who booked in for the 4 day Christmas special. My parents in their 80s and needed help with food and drinks sent to their rooms, and every time I made these requests I was met with very happy to help staff. We had 3 generations to cater for and each and every one of the team did their best to meet every ones needs and create a family friendly atmosphere. It really felt like home from home but better. The food was some of the best hotel food I've had and was on par with top restaurants. There was live music, magician, bingo, character artist, Santa and elves meet and greet with gifts for the kids and the adults, and many other festive activities for the kids were available. The play area for the kids was amazing as was the cinema and sauna. I don’t normally ask the names of staff unless I feel they are performing above and beyond, but on this occasion I feel I need to send a Massive thank you to Adam, Sean both Amy’s (spelt differently) Claudia and Sydney you really made the festive break one to remember fondly, and you are truly an asset the the hotel.
We stayed at the Esplanade months ago with our 5-year-old boys. Meant to write a review as soon as we left but oh well. Short answer: HIGHLY recommend. And here goes the long text: the best hotel I’ve ever been to with kids! They’re not just child and pet friendly. They are designed to accommodate families and go out of their way to make it extra special for the little guests, who to be honest, most hotels too often neglect to even notice. Little thoughtful details, the service deserve all 5 stars and more. Manager on duty (Claudia if I’m not mistaken) is just the best hotel manager I’ve met so far. Always there with the biggest smile, ready to assist and make the experience the most enjoyable for everyone. Thank you everyone!
Lovely hotel with friendly staff. Rooms were of good size. Bed was comfortable and the pillows were decent. This was one of the few hotels where i slept well and did not wake up during the night thanks to the comfortable bed. Bathroom was lovely too, only downside is the shower curtain always getting wet when showering so water got all over the floor. The hotel had a nice pool, hot tub and sauna. Pool is a bit on the small side but nice regardless. Finally, the food was tasty but could have been a little better on some days as one day we had garlic bread and it was really hard, and during breakfast one morning i still had egg shells on the bottom of my poached egg. One last slightly annoying things was how thin the floors/walls were so you constantly hear loud footsteps or movement. Other than those few minor negatives, it was a nice stay.
Great views, food is very nice but the service at tea was slow and taken to the wrong table. Great place for kids with the 4 films a day being shown, swimming pool and play area in the breakfast/dinning room. They do think of the kids alot at this hotel and it is well worth coming for that. There's a seating area you can sit and watch the sea with your drinks whilst the kids sit doing colouring or a jigsaw nearby. As expected there is some noise but it's a child focused so that is to be expected. All in all a lovely stay and we aim to come back.
Booked late, were surprised to get a room.
Service was excellent, both housekeeping and front of house staff.
The receptionist was really helpful. …
